染の小道 The street gallery of dyed fabrics


The festival of dyed silk and other fabrics called "Some no Komichi" was held for the first time in four years around Nakai station in Shinjuku, Tokyo.


The Nakai/Ochiai area is the center of traditional dyeing industry in Tokyo where skilled craftsmen can still be seen in their workshops applying colors and patterns to kimono silks.




You can walk and see dyed clothes with traditional dying techniques such as bingata, edo-yuzen and kakishibu-zome. I joined the tour for an hour and had a chance to hear details of bingata, traditional dyeing in Okinawa.
